Author Guidelines

NURTECH: Journal of Informatics and Technology

NURTECH: Journal of Informatics and Technology welcomes original research articles, scientific studies, and technological development papers in the fields of informatics and information technology. Authors are invited to submit manuscripts that demonstrate originality, scientific rigor, methodological soundness, and meaningful contributions to the development of knowledge and technology.

Authors are required to carefully follow the guidelines below before submitting a manuscript.

1. Scope of the Manuscript

Submitted manuscripts must be relevant to the Focus and Scope of NURTECH and should address topics related to informatics, information technology, computing, digital technology, or related interdisciplinary fields.

Topics may include, but are not limited to:

• Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning;
• Data Science and Big Data;
• Information Systems;
• Software Engineering;
• Web and Mobile Application Development;
• Internet of Things (IoT);
• Computer Networks and Cloud Computing;
• Cybersecurity and Information Security;
• Computer Vision and Image Processing;
• Natural Language Processing;
• Human-Computer Interaction;
• Intelligent Systems;
• Database and Information Management;
• Geographic Information Systems;
• Blockchain and Distributed Systems;
• Educational Technology;
• Digital Transformation;
• Digital Forensics;
• Information Technology Governance; and
• Informatics and technology studies related to ethics, sustainability, social benefit, and Islamic values.

2. Types of Manuscripts

NURTECH primarily accepts the following manuscript types:

Research Article

A research article presents original research findings supported by an appropriate methodology, analysis, results, and discussion.

Review Article

A review article provides a comprehensive and critical analysis of previously published research on a specific topic within the journal's scope. Review articles should demonstrate systematic and critical synthesis rather than merely summarizing previous studies.

Technology Development Article

A technology development article presents the design, development, implementation, testing, and evaluation of an information technology system, application, algorithm, model, or technological solution.

The Editorial Team may determine the suitability of the submitted manuscript type during the editorial screening process.

3. Originality and Publication Status

Manuscripts submitted to NURTECH must be original works that have not been previously published and are not simultaneously under consideration by another journal or publication.

By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that:

• The manuscript is their original work;
• The manuscript has not been published elsewhere;
• The manuscript is not simultaneously submitted to another journal;
• All sources used in the manuscript are properly acknowledged;
• All authors have made meaningful contributions to the research and manuscript;
• The manuscript does not contain plagiarized material;
• The research has been conducted in accordance with applicable ethical standards.

Any form of plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, falsified data, or other academic misconduct may result in rejection or withdrawal of the manuscript.

4. Authorship

All individuals listed as authors must have made substantial contributions to the research and manuscript.

Authors are expected to have contributed to one or more of the following:

• Conception or design of the research;
• Data collection or analysis;
• Development of methodology, models, or systems;
• Interpretation of results;
• Preparation or substantial revision of the manuscript; and
• Approval of the final version of the manuscript.

All authors must approve the submitted and final versions of the manuscript and agree to be accountable for the integrity of the work.

Changes to authorship after submission should be avoided and may only be made with appropriate justification and approval from all affected authors and the Editorial Team.

5. Manuscript Language

Manuscripts should be written in clear and academic English.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript is grammatically correct, readable, and professionally written.

Manuscripts with poor language quality may be returned to the authors for language revision before entering the peer-review process.

6. Manuscript Structure

A research manuscript should generally contain the following sections:

1. Title
2. Author Names and Affiliations
3. Abstract
4. Keywords
5. Introduction
6. Literature Review / Related Work
7. Research Methodology
8. Results
9. Discussion
10. Conclusion
11. Acknowledgments (if applicable)
12. Author Contributions (if applicable)
13. Funding Statement (if applicable)
14. Conflict of Interest Statement
15. Data Availability Statement (if applicable)
16. References

The structure may be adjusted according to the nature of the research and the article type.

7. Title

The title should be:

• Concise and informative;
• Specific to the research topic;
• Reflective of the main research contribution;
• Free from unnecessary abbreviations; and
• Written in academic English.

The title should generally avoid excessive use of technical jargon unless it is necessary to accurately describe the research.

8. Author Information

The manuscript should provide the following information for each author:

• Full name;
• Institutional affiliation;
• Department or study program, where applicable;
• City and country;
• Institutional email address; and
• ORCID iD, if available.

One author should be designated as the corresponding author and will be responsible for communication with the Editorial Team throughout the publication process.

9. Abstract

The abstract should provide a concise summary of the manuscript and should generally include:

• Background or research problem;
• Objective;
• Methodology;
• Main results; and
• Conclusion or contribution.

The abstract should be written as a single coherent paragraph and should generally contain approximately 150–250 words.

Citations, tables, figures, and unexplained abbreviations should generally not be included in the abstract.

10. Keywords

Authors should provide 3–5 keywords that accurately represent the main concepts of the manuscript.

Keywords should be specific, relevant, and useful for indexing and information retrieval.

11. Introduction

The introduction should clearly establish the context and significance of the research.

It should generally include:

• Research background;
• Relevant problem or issue;
• Current state of research;
• Research gap;
• Research objectives or questions;
• Novelty or originality; and
• Expected contribution of the research.

Authors should use relevant and up-to-date scholarly references to support the research background and identify the research gap.

12. Literature Review / Related Work

The literature review should demonstrate the authors' understanding of relevant previous research.

Authors should:

• Use relevant scholarly sources;
• Critically compare previous studies;
• Identify limitations or gaps in existing research;
• Establish the theoretical or conceptual basis of the study; and
• Clearly position the current research in relation to previous studies.

The literature review should not merely provide a descriptive list of previous publications.

13. Research Methodology

The methodology must be described clearly enough to allow readers to understand and, where appropriate, reproduce the research.

Depending on the research type, the methodology may include:

• Research design;
• Research location or context;
• Data sources;
• Population and sample;
• Data collection procedures;
• Software or hardware specifications;
• Development methodology;
• Algorithms or models;
• Experimental procedures;
• Data analysis techniques;
• Evaluation metrics; and
• Validation and testing procedures.

For system or software development research, authors should clearly explain the development process, system architecture, implementation approach, and testing or evaluation methods.

14. Results

The results section should present the findings objectively and systematically.

Authors should:

• Present results that directly address the research objectives;
• Use appropriate tables, figures, graphs, or diagrams where necessary;
• Provide sufficient explanation of the presented data;
• Avoid unnecessary repetition;
• Clearly distinguish findings from interpretation; and
• Ensure that numerical and technical results are accurate.

Tables and figures must be properly numbered and referenced within the manuscript.

15. Discussion

The discussion should interpret the research findings and explain their significance.

Authors should:

• Relate the findings to the research objectives;
• Compare the findings with previous studies;
• Explain similarities and differences;
• Discuss theoretical and practical implications;
• Address unexpected findings where relevant; and
• Explain the contribution of the research.

The discussion should be supported by relevant scholarly references and should avoid unsupported claims.

16. Conclusion

The conclusion should provide a concise statement of the main findings and contribution of the research.

It should:

• Directly answer the research objectives or questions;
• Summarize the principal findings;
• Highlight the contribution of the research;
• Avoid introducing new findings; and
• Provide recommendations or directions for future research where appropriate.

17. Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should be used only when they contribute meaningfully to the presentation of the research.

Authors should ensure that:

• Every table and figure has a clear title or caption;
• Tables and figures are numbered consecutively;
• All tables and figures are referenced in the manuscript;
• The content is readable and of sufficient quality;
• Sources are acknowledged where applicable; and
• Copyright requirements are respected for materials reproduced from other sources.

Figures should be submitted in sufficient resolution for publication.

18. Equations and Mathematical Expressions

Mathematical equations should be clearly presented and numbered where necessary.

Authors should use consistent notation throughout the manuscript and define all important variables and symbols.

Equations should be prepared using an appropriate equation editor rather than inserted as low-quality images.

19. Research Ethics

Authors must ensure that their research complies with applicable ethical standards.

Where applicable, manuscripts should include information regarding:

• Research ethics approval;
• Informed consent;
• Protection of personal or sensitive data;
• Data privacy;
• Permission to use datasets;
• Responsible use of artificial intelligence;
• Cybersecurity and responsible disclosure; and
• Other relevant ethical considerations.

Authors must not submit research involving unethical data collection, unauthorized access, misuse of personal information, or other unlawful activities.

20. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Authors may use artificial intelligence tools for appropriate purposes such as language improvement, grammar correction, formatting assistance, or other supporting tasks.

However, AI tools must not replace the authors' intellectual responsibility for the research, analysis, interpretation, or scientific conclusions.

Authors remain fully responsible for:

• The accuracy of the manuscript;
• The originality of the work;
• The integrity of the data;
• The validity of the analysis;
• Proper citation of sources; and
• Any content generated or assisted by AI tools.

Where required by the journal, authors should disclose significant use of AI tools in manuscript preparation.

AI tools should not be listed as authors.

21. Citation and References

Authors must properly cite all sources that contribute to the manuscript.

References should:

• Be relevant to the research;
• Include sufficient recent scholarly literature;
• Preferably include peer-reviewed journal articles and reputable academic sources;
• Be consistently formatted according to the journal's required citation style;
• Correspond accurately with citations in the manuscript; and
• Avoid excessive self-citation.

Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote to maintain citation consistency.

22. Plagiarism and Similarity

All submitted manuscripts may be checked for plagiarism or text similarity using an appropriate plagiarism detection system.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscript does not contain plagiarism, including:

• Direct plagiarism;
• Improper paraphrasing;
• Self-plagiarism;
• Duplicate publication; or
• Unattributed use of ideas, data, figures, or text from other sources.

The Editorial Team reserves the right to reject manuscripts that demonstrate unacceptable levels of similarity or other forms of academic misconduct.

23. Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest that may influence the research or publication process.

If no conflict of interest exists, authors may state:

“The authors declare that there is no conflict of interest related to the publication of this article.”

24. Funding Statement

Authors should disclose all sources of financial support for the research, including institutional grants, research funding, or other forms of financial assistance.

If the research received no specific funding, authors may state:

“This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.”

25. Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to provide information regarding the availability of research data where appropriate.

Authors may indicate whether the data are:

• Publicly available;
• Available upon reasonable request;
• Available through a designated repository; or
• Restricted due to ethical, privacy, legal, or institutional considerations.

26. Acknowledgments

Authors may acknowledge individuals, institutions, research groups, funding agencies, or other parties that contributed to the research but do not qualify for authorship.

Acknowledgments should be concise and relevant to the research.

27. Submission Process

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the NURTECH online journal management system (OJS).

Authors are required to:

1. Register an account on the journal website.
2. Complete the required author information.
3. Upload the manuscript according to the journal template.
4. Provide complete metadata for all authors.
5. Submit the required supplementary files, if applicable.
6. Confirm compliance with the journal's submission requirements.
7. Complete the submission process through the OJS system.

Manuscripts submitted outside the official submission system may not be considered for publication.

28. Manuscript Template and Formatting

Authors must use the official NURTECH Manuscript Template provided on the journal website.

The manuscript should follow the prescribed requirements regarding:

• Page layout;
• Font and font size;
• Line spacing;
• Heading structure;
• Tables and figures;
• Citation style;
• Reference formatting; and
• Manuscript length.

Failure to follow the required template may result in the manuscript being returned to the authors before peer review.

29. Publication Fee

Any applicable Article Processing Charge (APC), submission fee, or other publication-related fee will be clearly stated by the journal.

Authors should consult the journal's official Fees / Article Processing Charge policy for current information.

30. Copyright and Licensing

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submitted work does not violate the copyright or intellectual property rights of others.

Upon acceptance, authors agree to comply with the journal's applicable copyright and licensing policies.

The specific licensing terms applied to published articles will be stated clearly on the journal website and within the publication agreement.

31. Author Responsibilities

By submitting a manuscript to NURTECH, authors acknowledge that they are responsible for:

• The originality and integrity of their work;
• The accuracy of the data and research findings;
• Appropriate citation of all sources;
• Compliance with research ethics;
• Disclosure of conflicts of interest;
• Accurate authorship information;
• Compliance with the journal's submission requirements; and
• Responding appropriately to reviewer and editorial comments.

32. Editorial and Peer-Review Process

All manuscripts are subject to the journal's editorial screening and double-blind peer-review process.

Submission of a manuscript does not guarantee acceptance or publication. The final publication decision is determined by the Editorial Team based on the results of the review process and the journal's editorial policies.

Authors may be requested to revise their manuscripts one or more times before a final editorial decision is made.

Author Submission Checklist

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should confirm that:

• The manuscript is within the scope of NURTECH.

• The manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere.

• The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal.

• All authors have approved the submitted manuscript.

• The manuscript follows the official NURTECH template.

• The title and abstract accurately represent the research.

• The research objectives are clearly stated.

• The methodology is adequately described.

• Results and discussion are clearly presented.

• Tables and figures are properly numbered and cited.

• All sources are properly cited.

• The reference list is complete and consistent with the citations.

• Plagiarism and academic misconduct requirements have been addressed.

• Ethical considerations have been disclosed where applicable.

• Conflict of interest has been declared.

• Funding information has been provided where applicable.

• Data availability information has been provided where applicable.

• The manuscript has been checked for language and formatting quality.

• All required metadata and supplementary files have been provided.

NURTECH: Journal of Informatics and Technology reserves the right to return manuscripts that do not comply with these guidelines before proceeding to the peer-review process.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
